Watch & learn

A closer look inside the hive.

Three moments from one inspection. Videos have no audio; the notes below summarize our conversation.

Silent clip · 23 seconds

Why we opened this hive

At the previous inspection, we hadn’t found eggs, larvae, or brood. This visit was a chance to look again for signs of laying activity and see how the colony was doing.

Silent clip · 34 seconds

An encouraging discovery

We identify capped brood and larvae while checking the frame, along with honey stores. Those findings are encouraging after our earlier concerns. We continue looking for eggs; the queen herself is not identified in this clip.

Silent clip · 40 seconds

Checking the bees’ progress

We examine another frame and discuss the honey and nectar we’re finding. The bees are beginning to build out comb, another detail we note as we assess the colony after a break in brood production.
